Survey: Most Bucharesters don’t want free public transport
About 64% of the participants to a study by the Romanian Academy admitted that they used Bucharest's public transport without a ticket at least once. On the other hand, 75% don't agree with making public transport free in the city.
"The study is an exploratory one, being carried exclusively online, therefore the results can't be generalized for all the public transport users in Bucharest," the authors state, according to local Economica.net.
They also say that comparative data at European level indicate Bucharest as one of the cities with the most frequent use of public transport, as well as the lowest number of people satisfied with the quality of public transport. Thus, only 9% of study participants are satisfied with the quality of public transport while 4% say they are satisfied with the air quality in the city.
According to the study, 51% of those surveyed frequently used the subway, 43% used above-ground transport means and 24% often used their personal cars. Taxis are frequently used by 12% of the respondents while 12% prefer bicycles.
