Survey: One in ten Romanians want to turn entrepreneurs in the coming year

14 November 2013

One in five Romanians find it opportune to open a business during the current economic context, while one in ten would like to become entrepreneurs in the following year, according to a study by Provident Financial Romania.

Half of those interviewed for the study said they would choose the individual business registration (Persoana Fizica Autorizata – PFA).

The study revealed that 2.4 percent of the respondents have already started to set up their own firm or to register for business, while more than a quarter are interested and ready to become entrepreneurs, but do not think they will be able to do it within a year.

A third would choose the SRL as a business registration, while only 0.8 percent would choose to create a stock company. Another third of respondents have experience with entrepreneurship, but only 12.2 percent are currently active.

Another third believe that starting a business would require an investment of around RON 15,000 – the equivalent of some EUR 3,300, while half believe the investment would have to be between RON 15,000 and RON 50,000 - EUR 3,300 to EUR 11,000. A quarter think the investment needs to be above RON 50,000, or EUR 11,000.

A quarter think they'd get the investment from friends and family as loan, while 22 percent would revert to governmental programs, and 20 percent to business investment funds, according to the survey.

Investing in their own business is seen as among the most advantageous investment for about half of respondents, while slightly more than half prefer investments in silver and gold. Bank deposits come fourth among attractive investments for Romanians.
