Suspended President: Romanian Govt. spoils chances of Schengen green light in EC report
Suspended Romanian President Traian Basescu said yesterday ( July 17 ) that he believed the EC's report would have recommended Schengen Area accession for Romania, had it not been for the recent antics of PM Victor Ponta and Social Liberal Union (USL). He called Ponta and interim president Crin Antonescu's strategies a resurrection of the dark days of 90s style Romanian politics.
Basescu also said the report is a good one in what concerns progress on justice reforms. He also mentioned he tried to discuss with high level European officials and delay the presentation of the report and potential difficult decisions until after the July 29 referendum.
