Swedish Skanska to start first Romanian office complex development in early 2013
Swedish multinational construction company Skanska has bought its first plot for development in Romania. The 15,000 sqm plot is on Gara Herastrau street, next to the Aurel Vlaicu metro station in the north part of Bucharest. Skansa plans to build a three phase office complex, called Green Court Bucharest, and when finished will include three building and 52,000 sqm of Gross Leasable Area (GLA), the developer announced. Skanska bought the plot from Romanian businessman Gabriel POpoviciu, according to Mediafax. The deal was worth some EUR 14 million.
As well as managing the project, Skanska is also the general contractor and construction is expected to start early next year. The new complex will be LEED Gold certified, the second highest award from the US green buildings rating system, which awards points for low environmental impact, sustainability, energy efficiency and many other categories. “Functional and environmentally sound work spaces are increasingly in demand by tenants and investors”, said the Skanska Romania President Andreas Lindelöf (in picture).
Part of the Skanska Group, Skanska Romania has been operating since 2011 and aims to develop more office space in country, all built to meet the LEED environmental certification standards. Globally, Skanska has financed and developed 1.9 million sqm of commercial space, has more than 500,000 sqm of modern office buildings in development and is planning to start building a total of 200,000 sqm of new space in the next two years.
Headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden and listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange, Skanska has 57,000 employees in Europe, the US and Latin America. The company posted some EUR 13.8 billion in sales in 2011.
