US fast food chain Taco Bell to expand to Romania
The US group Yum! Brands, which operates KFC and Pizza Hut, wants to open at least 100 new Taco Bell restaurants in China, Brazil, Canada and India over the next 5 years, and expand the chain to 18 other markets such as Romania, Peru, Finland, Sri Lanka, announced the Taco Bell International president Melissa Lora, reports local Profit.ro.
The group wants to raise its annual sales from USD 10 billion to USD 15 billion by 2022, according to Bloomberg.
It was the first time when the Taco Bell International president officially nominated Romania for expanding here within the next five years.
Romanians spend about RON 2 billion (EUR 438 million) per year in fast-food chain restaurants, according to a ZF analysis. The market is dominated by international companies such as McDonald’s and KFC.
McDonald’s has a share of 29% from this market in value and 31% in volume, followed by KFC. Each of the two fast-food chains has 65-70 restaurants in Romania. Their cumulated turnover amounts to about RON 1 billion (EUR 219 million), namely half of the market.
