Targu Mures airport reopens after EUR 12 mln investments

26 June 2018

Flights on Targu Mures airport resumed after a RON 56 million (EUR 12 mln) investment project was completed. The financing was covered by state budget and county council funds.

The airport’s runway was rehabilitated allowing bigger planes to land and take off, a release of the Mures county council said, according to local Mediafax. Hence, the airport can be used by Airbus 320 planes and by larger aircraft.

The first flight from the airport was to Antalya (Turkey), operated by the Turkish air carrier Coredon Airlines. This flight will be operated on weekly basis until end-September.

Wizz Air will also resume flights on Targu Mures airport this week to Dortmund and Memmingen. In addition, the airport management is discussing with all air carriers for diversifying destinations accessible from Targu Mures.

The airport in Targu Mures closed in November 2016, after Wizz Air decided to transfer all its flights to the airport in Cluj-Napoca, due to the runway’s bad shape.
