The teachers are reportedly close to accepting to put an end to their strike after the government sweetened the offer, increasing by 30% the immediate wage hike for the lowest wages to RON 1,300 (gross) and promising a substantial wage hike in January 2024, Stirileprotv.ro reported.

Thus, the teachers will get in January half of the wage differential to the target wages set under the existing legislation. The support personnel in schools will get wage hikes as well.

The impact on this year's budget is estimated at RON 2.7 bln (EUR 550 mln).

Teachers' trade unions are consulting their members and will provide an answer to the government's proposal on June 12 at 10:00.

The Ministry of Education prepared a plan to allow schools to end the classes quickly and organise yearend exams.
