Team Romania return with seven medals from International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad, best results ever

Romania has recorded its best result ever at the International Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad winning seven medals including two gold, two silver and three bronze.

The tally saw Romania place third in the unofficial rankings of the Olympiad, held recently in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Gold medals went to Paul Andrei Draghiş and Tudor Suciu, both in their senior year at a high school in Baia Mare, while the silvers went to Mălina Roşca from Alba Iulia and Andrei Cătălin Răduc from Bucharest.

The three bronze medals were awarded to Maria Cristiana Dedu from Piatra Neamt, and to Denis Turcu and Sebastian Trifa, both from Bucharest. Romania's team was made of eight high school students.

Run since 1996, the International Astronomy Olympiad is an annual scientific competition for high school students.
