Ten Romanian films go to Cannes festival

As many as ten Romanian films will be screened at the Cannes festival which starts today in France, three of which are feature films and seven short films as well in the Short Films Corner. Romanian directors Cristi Puiu and Radu Muntean will attend the festival as part of a 60-people Romanian delegation. Cristi Puiu's film Aurora was nominated at the 'Un certain regard' category of the festival, where it will compete with 18 other movies. Radu Munteanu's film 'Marti dupa Craciun' (Tuesday after Christmas) was also nominated for this category and is in competition with Cristi Puiu's film. Andrei Ujica's film 'Autobiografia lui Nicolae Ceausescu' (Nicolae Ceausescu's autobiography) is part of the Out of Competition group of movies, together with 'Carlos', by Olivier Assays, 'Robin Hood', by Ridley Scott, 'Wall Street Never Dies', by Oliver Stone and 'You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger', by Woody Allen.

Cristi Puiu won the 'Un Certain regards' prize in 2005 with the film 'Moartea Domnului Lazarescu' (The Death of Mr. Lazarescu).

The film festival in Cannes takes places between May 12 and May 23rd. This year's president of the Jury is Tim Burton, the director of the recently released film 'Alice in Wonderland'
