The Darkness to open Lady Gaga's concert in Romania this summer

13 April 2012

Glam rock group The Darkness will open Lady Gaga's European tour concerts this year, including the show scheduled for August 16 in Romania. The series of concerts will start on August 14 in Bulgaria, followed by Romania, at the National Arena.

The British rock band, known for their pyrotechnics and elaborate shows, reunited in 2011 with all the original members. The band formed in 2000, and features Justin Hawkins (lead vocals, guitar), his brother Dan Hawkins (guitar, backing vocals), Frankie Poullain (bass, backing vocals) and Ed Graham (drums).

The Darkness won fame with their best known song 'I believe in a thing called love' – listen to it below. Their anachronistic approach was a breath of fresh air for the pop scene at the time.

Lady Gaga included Romania in her European tour, with the official announcement surfacing in the media earlier this week.

Tickets for the event in Bucharest will soon be on sale, at prices between RON 130 and RON 495. The artist has announced the dates of her upcoming concerts in Europe on her social media accounts. Her Europe tour this summer includes Sofia, Vienna, Vilnius and Riga, as well as London, Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona.

Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, is a 26-year old American singer and song writer who has become famous worldwide, having sold over 15 million album copies and 51 million single disks throughout the world. She exceeded the 1 billion views threshold on YouTube in October last year.

Lady Gaga’s international fame started in 2008, when she launched the album ‘The Fame’, which became a huge commercial success. Her songs topped charts around the world, including the international number-one singles “Just Dance” and “Poker Face’. In 2012, Gaga was ranked at number four on Billboard’s list of top moneymakers of 2011, grossing more than USD 25 million.

She has been both acclaimed and criticized for the outfits she wears in her videos and during her tours, being compared to Madonna and Marylin Manson at the same time.
