The director of Romania’s largest secret service says he will hand over his resignation to the new president
The director of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI), the country’s largest secret service, George Maior, said he will hand over his resignation to Romania’s new president.
He said that the new president should evaluate his activity as head of the service and decide if he will keep him in this position or not.
George Maior was appointed as head of SRI eight years ago by President Traian Basescu, who is close to the end of his second term and should step down at the end of this year. A new president will be elected in November.
Some political analysts launched the idea that if Prime Minister Victor Ponta will be elected president, he will name George Maior as his successor to lead Romania’s Government. Maior denied the rumor, saying that he hasn’t been approached by anyone for taking this position.
