The number of Romanians arrested in France’s capital city increased by 78 percent in 2011, according to a report presented by Michel Gaudin, the police prefect in Paris, quoted by Europe1.fr.

“Last year, when delinquency decreased by 1.52 percent, the number of arrests of Romanians exploded: up 78 percent, according to the figures presented by the prefect,” writes Europe1.fr. This translates as 23 Romanians arrested per day- and most of the time it was the same people.

“Why deny it? These people are involved in activities like stealing from ATMs, stealing mobile phones, begging using network systems that exploit insufficient prison terms for minors,” said the prefect quoted by Europe1.fr.

For several months, with the help of Romanian policemen, the police in Paris have begun to develop a detailed map of Romanian crime networks in the capital city. So far, investigators have identified 1,300 people.
