The Government has “no clear image” of how many Romanians  live abroad, said Bogdan Stanoevici, the minister for Romanians everywhere.

He said the only certain information is that there are more than one million Romanians in Italy and almost one million in Spain and asked the churches to help gather information about Romanian citizen abroad.

“We must remake the lists in order to have a clearer image of Romanians abroad, which is not easy at all as figures that come from embassies and consular directions, local authorities, churches and other sources vary a lot,” said Stanoevici, quoted by Hotnews.ro.

Some countries ask immigrants to register in order to get work permits. However, many Romanians work without legal forms and they appear nowhere in the statistics.
