Therme Bucharest, the biggest wellness and spa complex in Romania, and its security company DAB Security, need to pay moral damages worth RON 30,000 (EUR 6,540) for having discriminated two Roma people, according to a court decision cited by local Profit.ro.

In May last year, the National Council for Combating Discrimination (CNCD) established that Therme and the security firm had discriminated the two persons in January. CNCD issued fines for both companies, which challenged the decision in court.

Therme needs to pay RON 5,000 (EUR 1,087) to each person, whereas DAB Security is obliged to pay damages of RON 10,000 (EUR 2.174) to each person. The decision is not final, and the two companies have 15 days to file an appeal.

According to CNCD, four people submitted a complaint arguing that they were waiting in line at Therme when 12 bodyguards surrounded them and asked them to get out.
