Three high profile members ousted from Romania’s ruling party

28 November 2014

Former Senate president Mircea Geoana, the Bucharest District 5 mayor Marian Vanghelie and former minister Dan Sova were excluded from Romania's ruling party the Social Democrat Party (PSD), following the vote on Thursday in the party’s National Executive Committee.

PSD President and current Prime Minister Victor Ponta said that the overwhelming majority of his colleagues decided that everyone he must go their way and that he paid a price for not being a man of radical decisions. Suspension or exclusion were the two proposals within the Committee, but the majority went for exclusion, according to PSD sources, quoted by Mediafax.

The proposal to oust the three got 80 votes “for”, there were two votes "against" and two abstentions, the sources reported. "Sometimes it takes radical decisions and you need to stay in a team with those who have a joint project with you," the PSD president added.
