Three Romanian parties create new alliance within ruling coalition, ahead of EP elections
A new electoral alliance was inked in Romania ahead of upcoming elections. The Social Democratic Party PSD, part of the ruling coalition the Social Liberal Union USL, and two other parties, the National Union for the Progress of Romania UNPR, and the Conservative Party PC joined hands in creating a union ahead of the elections for the European Parliament. The new union is called the Social – Democrat Union, in short USD.
The three parties are also part of the ruling coalition USL, but the name similarity did not bother the fourth party within the USL, the National Liberal Party PNL. Its leader Crin Antonescu said it did not bother them and it was not a surprise. He added the initiators of the union will probably explain what USD stands for before the EP elections, but also said it was not his problem if people mix up the two names.
