Timisoara city hall revamps and upgrades 37-year old tram to rent it for parties, tourists
A 37-year old revamped tram, now equipped with an internet connection, beer tap, coffee machine, as well as with a bathroom, is up for rent in the Western Romanian city of Timisoara.
The local public transport company, owned by the city hall, invested around EUR 10,000 to revamp the tram, and hopes to rent it for tourists routes and various events, such as parties or corporate events. The tram's route will pass downtown Timisoara, but it can be altered depending what clients want.
The Timisoara mayor Nicolae Robu believes the investment in this tram will be covered in maximum two years. The 30-seat tram can be rented for RON 75 per kilometre without a guide, and for RON 170 per kilometre with a guide. When parked, it costs RON 175 per hour to rent the tram.
