Several car brands are more popular among Romanians than others, which is mirrored in the sales numbers regularly reported by car sellers and importers.

Some 53,800 new passenger cars were sold in Romania in the first eight months of 2014, 30% more compared to the same period of 2013, according to data published by the Romanian Automotive manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA).

Data presented by APIA differs from the data published by the state’s Car Registrations and Driving Licenses Direction, which shows that 46,000 new cars were registered in Romania in the first eight months of this year.

APIA gathers its data from its members, which are local car manufacturers and importers, while the registration and licenses direction takes into account the number of car registrations issued to Romanian car owners.
