Romania could move tourism decisions, strategy to regional authorities
County Councils might issue tourism licenses and authorizations for restaurants and hotels located in their respective counties, according to a plan announced by tourism minister Bogdan Trif.
Romanian tourism works at 20% to 30% capacity, said the minister, who wants to decentralize the system and move much of the decisions to county level, local Agerpres reported. Trif also plans to organize local and regional Destination Management Organizations (OMD), which would have decision power.
He wants to move and break down the country’s tourism strategy, drafted by a team of 10-15 people in the ministry’s marketing department, to regional and local level. These OMD offices would also include representatives of private tourism facilities.
