Number of tourists in Romanian hotels goes up by 5.7% in first four months

The number of tourists who checked into local hotels and guest houses increased by 5.7% in the first four months of this year compared to the same period of 2017, to over 3 million.

The number of foreign tourists reached 693,000 in the same period, up 6.7% year-on-year, according to official data from the National Statistics Institute (INS).

The number of European tourists increased by 4.4%, to 514,000, while the number of tourists from Asia went up by 9.1%, to 103,000.

Bucharest drew the highest number of tourists, both Romanian and foreign, in the first four months of this year, namely almost 600,000, followed by Brasov county (380,000), Cluj county (168,000) and Prahova county (163,000). The most popular ski resorts in Romania are located in Brasov and Prahova while Bucharest and Cluj draw many business tourists.

The number of foreign visitors who crossed Romania’s borders reached 3.43 million in the first four months, up 6.5% year-on-year.
