Town in Romania has cable cut before TV investigation on local authorities
About 30,000 people in Navodari, a town on Romania’s Black Sea coast, just north of Constanta, had their cable TV cut literally on Sunday evening, as a TV station broadcasted an investigation targeting the local authorities, according to Paginademedia.ro.
Antena 3 news station claims that Navodari mayor Nicolae Matei ordered the cable TV to be cut so that people in Navodari wouldn’t be able to watch a story about how the summer camp in Navodari has become a ruin.
“We were supposed to broadcast our show at 9 PM. At 7, we got a phone call from Navodari in which we were told, by reliable sources, that the mayor ordered the cable cut throughout the city. We thought this was a joke,” said journalist Alex Nedea, who made the investigation.
Four of the five cable TV providers in Navodari (RCS&RDS, UPC, Canal S, and InterSat) and their clients were affected, as their fiber optic cables were literally cut. Only NextGen clients haven’t been affected, as the company has its cables buried, according to Paginademedia.ro.
