Town near Bucharest, Romania aims to prepare biggest vegetarian salad in the world
Inhabitants in the town of Pantelimon, near Bucharest, hope to beat the world record for the largest vegetarian salad. Over 1,500 volunteers will work on what they hope it will be the largest vegetarian salad in the world on September 23. They will use 20 tonnes of vegetables and place them in a bowl 18 meters long, 3 meters wide and 90 centimetres tall, at the Exporom showroom, close to DN3 road. The event will mark the opening of the showroom.
Six tonnes of tomatoes, four tonnes of lettuce, four tonnes of cucumbers, two tonnes of peppers, two tonnes of onions, two tonnes of carrots, 400 kilograms of olives, 800 litres of olive oil and 400 kilograms of salt will go into the huge salad bowl.
After the record will be certified, the 20,000 portions of salad will be sent to shelters for the elderly, social cafeterias and other centres for people in need. The organizers are looking for volunteers to help prepare the salad – to sign up, go here (page in Romanian).
The biggest salad in the world record is currently held by Ierapetra, in Crete, Greece, with a 13,417 kilogram salad.
