Romania’s trade deficit reached EUR 10.2 billion in the first ten months of this year, up EUR 2.3 billion (30%) compared to the same period last year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS).

Exports amounted to EUR 52.3 billion during this period, up 9.6% year-on-year. Imports totaled EUR 62.5 billion, up 12.4% year-on-year.

In October, exports reached EUR 5.7 billion, up 13.3% year-on-year whereas imports amounted to EUR 7 billion, up 16.7% year-on-year. The deficit thus reached EUR 1.3 billion in October.

Romania’s exports to other EU countries amounted to EUR 39.7 billion in the first ten months of this year whereas the imports from the EU totaled EUR 47.4 billion. Exports to countries outside the EU reached EUR 12.6 billion during this period whereas imports totaled EUR 15 billion.

Machinery and transport equipment accounted for 46.5% of all exports and 37.2% of imports in the first ten months of this year.
