The Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) in New York is running an exhibition dedicated to traditional Romanian costumes and featuring around 25 exhibits of clothing. The exhibition, called La Blouse Roumaine after the famous painting by Henri Matisse of the same name, will also feature examples of the Ie (in picture), the type of blouse that appears in the Matisse work.
The exhibition opens with a launch event on May 17, at which the speakers will include Doina Uricariu, Director of the New York ICR, Eduard Andrei, PhD., curator of the show, Cristian Pascu, from whose collection the exhibits were chosen, and Theodor Damian, PhD., priest and professor.
There will be slide shows and presentations at the exhibition explaining the history and meaning behind traditional Romanian costumes. Digital reproductions of Matisse's series of works inspired by Romanian costumes, including the famous La Blouse Roumaine, will also be shown at the exhibition.
The exhibition will remain open until June 17 and visits can be arranged by calling the ICR on (1) 212-687-0180.
