Traffic at Bucharest airports up in the first quarter
Airline traffic exceeded 1.5 million passengers in the first quarter of 2014 at the two main Bucharest airports, Otopeni and Baneasa. The Otopeni airport, officially named the Henri Coanda International airport welcomed most of the traffic, as the Baneasa airport is no longer used for public flights.
The number of passengers was up 4.5 percent on the same period of 2013. Meanwhile, airport revenues were up 7 percent year-on-year during the interval. The company which runs the two airports, Compania Nationala Aeroporturi Bucuresti, saw RON 21.5 million (or EUR 4.7 million) in gross profit in the first quarter of the year, 2.7 times lower than in the same quarter of 2013.
