Train with military equipment, seen close to Romania's Constanta

28 April 2014

A train carrying military equipment, including anti-aircraft cannons, was filmed in Romania, near the city of Constanta, by an user of the LiveLeak website, who posted the footage online.

This raised questions, as the military convoy was close to the Mihail Kogalniceanu military base in Constanta, where American troops are deployed. However, Romania's Defense Ministry says the cannons, which are made in Romania, were delivered to several units which were to start joint exercises with US, Bulgarian and Macedonian troops.

The largest exercise was to take place at the American base at Mihail Kogalniceanu in Romania. The US has asked Romania to expand the operations at the Mihail Kogalniceanu base, to add marines and aircraft, and reach a maximum of 1,600 troops deployed there.
