Transport Minister: Roads blocked early because 'uncivilized' Romanians ignore warnings
Romania will block roads earlier than the start of the Code Yellow for blizzard because “we are not in a civilized country and people don't respect the warnings from the Police,” said the country's Transport Minister Anca Boagiu. “We decided yesterday with colleagues from the Police to close down roads a bit earlier, - and I am sorry to say this, but it is a reality- to avoid the lack of compliance with Police directions, which has led to roads blocks and the impossibility of using snowplows on some roads,” said Boagiu.
Romania is under a Code Yellow for blizzards and ice until Sunday, February 5, at 20:00, and under a Code Orange for low temperatures, with the lowest so far reaching minus 30°C. The Black Sea and the Danube have frozen. Some highways and roads in the country have been closed, while several train routes have been canceled.
