Travel agency owner: Romanians don't know how to make German tourists spend their money
German tourists who holiday in Romania return home with most of their budgets unspent, as the agreement infrastructure is missing in Romania and hotel owners lack interactive programs to keep customers in restaurants. The comment was made by Toni Messerschmidt, the owner of German travel agency Messerschmidt Reisen, who says Romanians don't know how to make Germans spend their money in the country.
“A German tourist arrives with at least EUR 500, pocket money, but the average amount to be spent on a holiday is of EUR 2,000 to EUR 3,000,” said Messerschmidt, who emigrated from Romania in the 80s.
Germans who come to Romania on holiday spend around EUR 400 in the country, mainly on food and drinks. “In Romania there are not even souvenirs with a national touch, and there aren't fun programs. No boats for sea cruises, between seaside resorts, like in Bulgaria. Just jet skis, which are dangerous for many of the foreign travelers, who are not young anymore,” said Messerschmidt, who attended the Berlin Tourism Fair.
His agency brings around 1,200 German tourists on the Romanian seaside every year. Last year, over 200,000 German tourists visited Romania.
