Turkish Businessmen Association: A quarter of Romania's metal exports go to Turkey

25 August 2011

Around 24 percent of Romania’s metal and metallurgical products exports went to Turkey in the first quarter of 2011. The total value of sold products amounted to approximately EUR 424 million, according to the Turkish Businessmen Association (TIAD).

“The potential to improve bilateral relations between Romania and Turkey is very high. Once the economic crisis will end, I am sure we will see an even more dynamic growth of trade between the two countries”, said Omer Susli, President TIAD.

After metals, Romanian-Turkish trade has focused on electric equipment and cars, with exports reaching a value of over EUR 130 million. Romania also exported mineral and vegetal products to Turkey of over EUR 150 million, but also chemicals, plastics and textiles with an aggregate value of over EUR 100 million.

According to data from the Romanian National Institute of Statistics, after the first 4 months of 2011, Romania had a total value of exports of metallurgical products of EUR 1.7 billion.

Turkish Businessmen Association (TIAD) is a non-profit organization, established in 1993, at the initiative of Turkish businessmen in Romania. Its main objective is to develop economic, social and cultural relations between Turkey and Romania. Currently, TIAD has 146 members.
