TV host Serban Huidu sentenced to two and a half years in prison after killing three in car accident
The Brasov Court judges sentenced TV and radio host and producer Serban Huidu to two years and a half years in prison with parole for manslaughter, after an accident in October 2011 in which three people were killed. The decision can be appealed.
The first hearing in the case was on June 21, when Huidu told the court he did not know how he got the car on the opposite side of the street, that he was very sorry for the tragedy produced, that it was his responsibility and that he doesn’t have any other statement to make.
The criminal case followed a civil suit for damages of over EUR 800,000 for the victims' families.
In mid-May, Serban Huidu was sent to court for manslaughter for his role in the accident that resulted in three deaths, on October 2011, in Timisul de Sus , Brasov.
According to the conclusions of technical experts, at the time of the accident, the car driven by Serban Huidu was traveling at 87 kilometers per hour, well above the speed limit of 50 kilometers per hour. Huidu's went into the opposite lane, hitting the other car head on.
Serban Sebastian Huidu is an ex Romanian producer of radio and television. He used to present the morning show at Kiss FM radio station and co-host the satirical weekly show called “Cronica Carcotasilor” on Prima TV. After the accident, he stepped down from the show and from the public arena.
