Two Brits convicted for terrorism, detained by the Hungarian Police in a train that was going to Bucharest

18 November 2015

The Hungarian Police have detained two British men who were convicted in the past for financing terrorist acts. Simon Jonathan K, 44, and Trevor B, 40, were stopped on Saturday on an international train that was crossing Lokoshaza in eastern Hungary and was heading to Bucharest.

Both men served prison time after being convicted of financing terrorist acts. They were released in 2009 and were not allowed to leave the UK without the British authorities' permission, according to the MTI agency, reports local Mediafax.

When stopped by the Police, the two men couldn’t present valid documents to prove their citizenship or the right to stay in Hungary. One of them had a UK driverʼs license, but the other one only produced a copy of the Quran. However, he was later identified as being a British citizen.

The two were registered in the Schengen informatics system, being searched for leaving the UK territory without permission.
