The two large French retailers Carrefour and Cora / Supermarchés Match recently signed a purchasing cooperation agreement, a partnership which covers purchasing negotiations for national and international brands, food products and general merchandise, except for private label products, goods produced by SMEs and fresh produce from the agricultural sector.

“This agreement establishes a long-term partnership, with no equity ties between the two companies, under which both companies maintain their independence while committing to sustainable relationships with their suppliers,” reads a statement of Carrefour.

The two retailers, which are also present on the Romanian market, will maintain their separate commercial policies. They will enforce the agreement on January 1, 2015.

Two other large retailers, Auchan and Metro, also shook hands on jointly handling acquisitions on an international level.
