Two Romanian online retailers investigated for tax evasion, counterfeit sales

30 January 2014

The owners of two Romanian websites selling clothes were accused of tax evasion, after clients complained they got counterfeit products and were asked to only pay in cash.

The retailers caused damage of around EUR 1 million to the Romanian state, according to the Police.

The two websites, hainetari.ro and haineintrend.ro, are selling clothes, footwear and perfumes, but only offer the option to pay cash, unlike most online retailers which provide the option to pay online and receive the invoice automatically.

The authorities made four house and office searches in this case, where about 20 people were brought in for questioning.
