Two-thirds of Romanians still use desktop computers to surf the web
Over two-thirds of the internet users in Romania, Hungary, Luxembourg, and Germany used desktop computers to surf the web in 2016, compared to 54% of the internet users in the EU.
At the opposite end, only 25% of the internet users in Ireland used desktop computers.
Meanwhile, only 37% of Romanian internet users surfed the web using laptops, compared to a 64% EU average. Only Italy had a lower share of laptop internet surfers, namely 31%, while laptops were used by 80% of the internet surfers in the Netherlands.
Mobile phones and smartphones were the most popular devices among internet users in the EU. Some 79% of the European web surfers used their mobile phones, with shares varying from 55% in the Czech Republic, to 93% in Spain. In Romania, 70% of the internet users went online via their phones.
Tablets are not that popular in Romania, with only little over a quarter (26%) of local internet users accessing it via their tablets. The EU average is 44%, with tablets being more popular among Dutch and British users.
