U.S. sends new Charge d’Affaires to Romania to replace Duane Butcher
The current Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest, Duane Butcher, will be replaced by Dean Thompson starting July, Butcher said in an interview for Romania’s HotNews.ro.
Thompson has been the general consul of the U.S. in Calcutta, India, since August 2011. he previously worked for the U.S Department of State, July 2006 to July 2010. He was also economic and commercial section chief for the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka, from July 2003 to July 2006, and political officer for the U.S. Embassy in Paraguay, 1997 to 1999, according to his LinkedIn profile.
He is married, with three children, according to his own description on Twitter.
He will be heading the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest until a new ambassador will be appointed. The U.S. didn’t appoint an ambassador to Romania after the departure of Mark Gittenstein, in December 2012.
