U.S. Trade Agency awards two grants to improve Romania’s information technology
The U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has awarded Romania two grants totaling some USD 690,000 for improving the Romanian government’s use of information and communication technologies, according to the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest, which represented USTDA in Romania, facilitating negotiations with the Romanian Government.
The U.S. Government and the Romanian State Secretary Bogdan Tohaneanu of the Ministry of Internal Affairs recently signed a grant in the amount of USD 400,600, for a feasibility study to consolidate the Ministry’s data centers into a single modern facility. “The proposed data center will have space available for co-location and disaster recovery services,” reads a statement of the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest.
This project comes after another U.S. Government-funded grant for USD 288,000, signed on June 27, 2013. The grant was awarded to develop modern information and communication technologies solutions to streamline legislative processes in Romania. “Working with State Secretary Radu Puchiu of the General Secretariat, the program will determine the feasibility of implementing a modern data management system,” according to the U.S. Embassy.
Moreover, this project will improve the organization of all documentation and correspondence related to legislative processes, enhancing information security and data recovery capabilities, while also increasing transparency.
USTDA is an independent U.S. Government foreign assistance agency that is funded by the U.S. Congress.
