Uber to launch food delivery app Uber Eats in Romania
American ridesharing company Uber plans to launch a new service in Romania, namely the Uber Eats food delivery app. The company is already looking for a general manager, local Profit.ro reported.
Uber Eats is an online meal ordering and delivery platform that connects clients and restaurants enrolled in the system, and allows delivery at home or office via Uber drivers. Ordering can be done on the website or with a mobile app. It is currently available in about 300 cities across all continents.
In Romania, Uber Eats will compete with similar delivery apps such as Foodpanda and Oliviera.
Uber was founded in the US in 2009. It became active in Bucharest in February 2015, and extended its services to Cluj, Brasov and Timisoara in 2016.
The company also announced that it plans to introduce its UberGreen service on the local market, which offers rides in 100% electric cars. In Bucharest, Uber currently offers three services, namely UberX, UberSelect, and Uber Child Seat.
