UberPitch aims to find young talented entrepreneurs in Romania

25 May 2016

The popular car ride service Uber will offer Romanians who want to start up their own business the chance to connect and present their ideas to experienced local entrepreneurs.

The UberPitch challenge will allow those who believe in their business ideas to request a ride with a local entrepreneur, just by pushing a button. They will have seven minutes to present their idea and then another seven minutes to find out the entrepreneur’s opinion and get business advice.

In Romania, the entrepreneurs who will evaluate the ideas presented in UberPitch are Oana Craioveanu – director and co-founder Impact Hub Bucharest, Bogdan Iordache – co-founder How to Web and TechHub Bucharest, Andrei Pitis – founder and CTO at Vector Watch, and Andrei Ostacie – investor, owner and marketing manager OkapiStudio.

UberPitch will take place in 37 cities from 21 countries in Europe. In Romania, the project is developed in partnership with Impact Hub Bucuresti and TechHub.

Those interested in this project will have to download the Uber app and then send their idea by filling in the form here. Those whose ideas are selected will receive a promotional code by June 1, which they can use to unlock the UberPitch option in the app. Then, on June 1 between 11:00 and 15:00, they can order UberPitch to present their ideas in front of the four local entrepreneurs. The rides are free.

A jury made of Uber representatives and representatives of local entrepreneurs and partners will choose the best ideas from all participating countries. Those selected will go to Berlin on June 8-9, where they will talk about their ideas with Travis Kalanick, Uber CEO and founder.

Uber launched its basic car ride service UberX in Romania's capital Bucharest in early-2015. The service has drawn a large number of users, which determined the company to also launch its premium service UberSelect in Romania.
