Ukraine wants to import natural gas from Romania

20 May 2015

Ukraine is interested in importing natural gas from Romania to diversify its supply sources, whereas Romania is seeking outlet markets, said hor Prokopiv, head of the gas transport company Ukrtransgaz.

Romania could have by 2016 some 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas available for export, Prokopiv added, cited by Reuters.

The country already exports natural gas to the Republic of Moldova, through a pipeline connecting the two countries, which has an annual capacity of 1.5 billion cubic meters.

On April 2, Russian company Gazprom and Ukrainian group Naftogaz signed an agreement to prolong for three months the delivery of Russian gas to Ukraine. The European Union and Ukraine wanted to prolong the contract for another year, but Gazprom accepted only three months.
