Ukrainian president: Russia could occupy Bucharest; Romanian president says country will be defended
Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko recently warned that Russia could occupy not only Kiev, but also Vilnius, Riga, Tallinn, Bucharest or other cities, if the international community doesn’t show solidarity with Ukraine.
“Russia has 1.2 million soldiers, it has one of the most modern armies in the world. By this logic, as Russia can take Kiev, Russia can take Vilnius, Riga, Tallinn, Bucharest and any other city, if we are not united,” said Poroshenko in an interview for BBC.
Romania’s president however Traian Basescu contradicted his Ukrainian counterpart saying that Romania will be defended in any scenario in case of an attack. He said that after the NATO summit Romania has a contingency plan in case of an attack. He added that there’s a 99.9% chance that there won’t be a Russian aggression against Romania and that the rest is “irrational”.
