Underground car park downtown Bucharest to undergo revamping, 1,000 new parking places will be available

03 July 2014

The underground parking at Intercontinetal, in downtown Bucharest, will be revamped, with works expected to be completed by autumn, according to Bucharest mayor Sorin Oprescu, cited by local Hotnews.ro.

Two access platforms will be added to the parking, which has a capacity of 1,000 places, but which is less used as a public parking, but more as a garage for state institution cars. Access is currently only partially possible to this car park. After the revamping, the tariff will be of RON 3.5 per hour.

Another underground parking will be built on the Edgar Quinet street in Bucharest, once the one at the  Intercontinental will be completed, added the mayor. This parking will have 370 places and will be done via a public-private partnership with the company Interparking.

“We also plan a parking at the intersection between the Tonitza and Franceza streets, with a capacity of 300 places, and, in the backyard of the Coltea hospital, we’ll build another parking destined to both medical stuff and visitors,” said Oprescu.

Currently, the municipality has 4,200 parking places marked on the streets in the central area of Bucharest. In addition, there are two private outdoor parkings at Unirea and Cocor shopping centers, which together have a capacity of 1,170 places, the underground parking at Universitate - 420 places, and the parking at Intercontinental, currently under modernization, with 1,000 places. Thus, there are almost 6,800 parking places downtown Bucharest.
