Unemployment rate reaches 6.8% in Romania

The unemployment rate in Romania reached 6.8% in 2014, down over the previous year.

The employment rate among the working-age population (15-64) amounted to 61%, according to the National Institute of Statistics.

In 2014, Romania’s active population reached 9.2 million, 8.6 million of whom were employed and 629,000 unemployed.

Some 31% of the total employed population were self-employed and unpaid family workers.

More than half of those aged 55 to 64 were jobless in 2014 (56.9%), whereas the employment rate among young people between 15 and 24 was of 22.5%.
