18 September 2013

Unirea Shopping Center mall in downtown Bucharest will get a cinema and rooftop skating rink as part of a wider investment plan by its owners the Adamescu family.

The investment plan of EUR 55 million will also include opening a five-Michelin star restaurant, as well as adding luxury shops at the Intercontinental hotel, according to Ziarul Financiar, quoting Carmen Adamescu, CEO of Unirea Shopping Center.

The budget would also cover doubling the area of the existing Unirea shopping center in the city of Brasov in central Romania.

At the Unirea Shopping Center in Bucharest, the owners plan to create direct access from the metro station to the shopping mall, creating an extra 1,500 sqm of retail space, according to Adamescu.

Unirea Shopping Center, which runs the Bucharest and Brasov malls, had a turnover of EUR 18.5 million last year. In Bucharest, it hosts brands such as H&M, Zara, Stradivarius, Bershka, among others.

The Adamescu family also owns the Intercontinental hotel in Bucharest and the Rex hotel in Mamaia on the Romanian seaside.
