The Unirii road passage downtown Bucharest has again flooded due to heavy rain last night and this morning (September 21 ). Bucharest authorities report that the underpass was flooded in the early hours of this morning (September 21 ) and remained blocked to traffic in both directions until 08:30. Traffic congestion has been widespread because of the downpours and the blocking of the Unirii underpass added to problems.

According to reports in the local media, the drainage system for the Unirii passage could not cope with the volume of water, which backed up and eventually flooded the important roadway, which takes traffic under Bucharest's Piata Unirii. It is not the first time the passage has flooded in recent months, rather it appears to be an almost inevitable result of heavy rain in the Romanian capital.
