Romanian courier company Urgent Cargus invests EUR 8 mln in automation, route optimization
Urgent Cargus, one of the largest courier companies in Romania, will invest EUR 8 million this year to improve its services, the company announced yesterday.
The firm will mainly try to optimize the distribution of its courier routes. Urgent Cargus will also invest in the ‘Sorting by voice’ technology, provided by Total Technologies, and an automated sorting system from Vanderlande.
"We process parcels weighing over 6 million pounds daily, which we sort and distribute throughout the country. The 2,600 couriers cross 170,000 kilometers a day so that our customers are satisfied,” said Gian Sharp, general director of Urgent Cargus.
The courier company was established under the name of Cargus in 1991 by a group of local entrepreneurs and was the first private courier company in Romania. Deutsche Post – DHL bought it in 2008, and sold it in 2012 to Abris Capital Partners investment fund.
In 2014, Cargus and Urgent Curier merged into Urgent Cargus. The company now owns and operates a national network of 72 centers and warehouses across the country with a fleet of over 2,600 courier vehicles.
