Romania is a “strategic partner” of the United States, said Hans Klemm, who was nominated as US ambassador to Bucharest. He spoke before the US Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee.

He mentioned Romania’s “important and serious efforts” to remove high-level corruption and improve the rule of law, reports local Wall-street.ro.

Romania is among the first ten countries which have contributed with troops in Afghanistan, and it hosts a military base that serves the anti-missile system. It is also a regional center for logistics equipment and it hosts hundreds of US Army and Navy members, said Klemm.

Romania is well placed to help Europe diversify its sources and transit infrastructure in the energy sector.
