US company interested in Romanian state-owned coal & electricity producer
US oil & gas company Quintana Minerals Corporation is interested in the privatization of the state-owned coal and electricity producer Hunedoara Energy Complex (CEH), and has asked Romania’s Department of Energy for more information about the public company.
"The interest shown by Quintana is extremely important. We are talking about a high profile mining company. It is the second largest holder of coal reserves in the US after the Federal Government. It would be a major opportunity to keep jobs in the Hunedoara County," said yesterday Razvan Nicolescu, the Minister-delegate for Energy, who will no longer be part of the reshuffled government, reports local Mediafax.
The Hunedoara Energy Complex has nearly 6,500 employees working in four mines in the Jiu Valley (Lonea, Livezeni Lupeni, Vulcan) and two power plants which covered 7% of the energy consumption nationwide last year.
