US giant Amazon ups turnover by 50% in Romania
Amazon Development Center, the company established by the US group to run its operations in Romania, recorded a turnover of EUR 23.9 million last year, up over 57% compared to 2015, reports local Ziarul Financiar.
The company’s net profit dropped by 14% in 2016 to over EUR 1 million. Meanwhile the number of employees rose from 371 in 2015 to 566 last year.
In 2005, Amazon set up a research and development center in Iasi, east of Romania. The group extpanded the center last year.
The new headquarters of Amazon in Romania hosts four departments, namely Technology Development, Compliance Operations, Retail Services, and Digital Imaging. They are all involved in developing technological solutions and consolidating operations on the Amazon site.
