US group buys 50% stake in Romanian veterinary drug distributor

US healthcare distributor Henry Schein bought a 50% stake in Maravet, a Romanian distributor of veterinary drugs.

The deal was completed in the second quarter of the year, but the details have not been yet made public, reports local Ziarul Financiar.

Maravet, which has its headquarters in Baia Mare, in northern Romania, has annual sales of USD 23 million and 89 employees. The company was founded in 1998 by a local family called Korponay, which has kept a 50% stake in the firm.

Henry Schein is interested to expand its business in Eastern Europe, said Stanley M. Bergman, president and CEO Henry Schein.
