Court clears registration of Romania's USR-PLUS alliance for European elections
The alliance formed by Save Romania Union (USR), led by Dan Barna, and PLUS, the party of former prime minister Dacian Ciolos, will be able to run in the European elections, after the High Court admitted on March 8 their appeal against the decision of the Central Electoral Bureau, which has rejected the registration of the electoral alliance, Hotnews.ro reported.
The Electoral Bureau objected to the fact that Barna and Ciolos were not legally registered as presidents of the two parties; therefore their request was not admissible.
Both accused political pressures and the deadlock was de facto settled when the “official” presidents of the two parties, particularly former USR president Nicusor Dan, said that they were ready to comply with the Bureau’s request and file themselves the request for the registration of the alliance. The decision of the High Court of Cassation and Justice is final.
"Now you have whom to vote for! The 2020 Alliance goes to the European Parliament!," Dacian Ciolos announced.
